Chorion villus sampling (CVS) is a relatively new technique for the early diagnosis of congenital and inherited foetal abnormalities. Earlier diagnosis should reduce the number of late terminations and as a result CVS is likely to replace amniocentesis as the first choice of technique for prenatal diagnosis. For obstetricians intending to set up a CVS clinic the book describes techniques, interpretation and implications of the results, establishment of a service and comparison with other tests. The book also presents information necessary for counselling women, both before referral to the CVS clinic and when the results have been received.
