Sinopsis
The beaches of Normandy were the only viable landing points for the Allied Forces - but it was acknowledged that this part of the coast was heavily fortified. The use of conventional tactics, such as combined tank and infantry, would not work. The brilliant, eccentric General Hobart's solution involved the creation of special assault vehicles (Avres). Our hero is a driver of one of these tanks - his job is to pave a way through minefields, barbed wire and anti-tank trenches, to allow the Canadian infantry through. Highly dangerous and truly heroic, this is one of the great untold stories of World War II.

R Eldworth is the pseudonym of Bryan Perrett, a professional military historian. He has contributed extensively to IPC's War Battle Picture Library and DC Thomson's Commando Library. Bryan lives in Lancashire.
