This collection brings together articles written since the early 1970s, many of which are out of print. Mainly about history, they include discussion of ideas in the women's movement interwoven with autobiographical accounts of Sheila Rowbotham's early life and her intellectual and political influences.

Born in 1943 Sheila Rowbotham was brought up in Leeds where she began writing on women's history as a participant in the beginnings of the women's liberation movement. She has written for many magazines and newspapers and has been a consultant on many films. She has held visiting posts in universities in the US, Canada, France and Holland and is now a Research Fellow at Manchester University and attached to the International Centre for Labour Studies.
