Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald (1896–1940) was an American author of novels and short stories, whose works are the paradigm writings of the Jazz Age, a term he coined himself. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest American writers of the 20th century. Fitzgerald is considered a member of the "Lost Generation" of the 1920s. He finished four novels, This Side of Paradise, The Beautiful and Damned, Tender is the Night and his most famous, The Great Gatsby. A fifth, unfinished novel, The Love of the Last Tycoon was published posthumously. Fitzgerald also wrote many short stories that treat themes of youth and promise along with despair and age. Novels such as The Great Gatsby and Tender is the Night were made into films, and in 1958 his life from 1937–1940 was dramatized in Beloved Infidel.

BOOK IMAGES: We provide at least two photos of each book so you know what you purchase. ## READ ON for information, and Book history, and a brief outline.## ## "The Beautiful and Damned"' by F. Scott Fitzgerald, reprinted by Penguin Books in 1971, is a poignant exploration of the American aristocracy in the Jazz Age. The novel follows the life of Anthony Patch, an aspiring writer, a wealthy industrialist's grandson, and his enchanting wife, Gloria Gilbert. Anthony and Gloria's story unfolds against the backdrop of 1920s New York City, a time characterised by prosperity, excess, and a growing disillusionment with the American Dream.## ## The narrative dives into their romance and marriage, highlighting their initial infatuation with each other and their shared pursuit of a life filled with luxury and pleasure. However, their extravagant lifestyle and reliance on Anthony's anticipated inheritance lead to personal and financial struggles. ## ## Anthony's lack of motivation and discipline, combined with Gloria's vanity and desire for constant admiration, gradually drive a wedge between them. As they descend into alcoholism and irresponsibility, their relationship deteriorates. Fitzgerald vividly portrays their decline, capturing the hedonism and moral decay of the era.## ## In a broader sense, the novel critiques the superficiality and fleeting nature of beauty, wealth, and social status. It is a cautionary tale about the dangers of excess and the emptiness that can accompany the relentless pursuit of pleasure.## ## Through Anthony and Gloria's journey, Fitzgerald paints a compelling portrait of the disintegration of their dreams and the ultimate realisation that true fulfilment cannot be found in material wealth alone. The novel remains a timeless exploration of love, ambition, and the moral complexities of human nature. ## ### INTERNATIONAL BUYERS: Please Note. FREE SHIPPING IS UK ONLY.
