Suitable for both the first-time user and the experienced designer, this volume presents the various types of programmable logic devices, examines the history of these devices and shows how they are used in modern digital systems. It explores in detail how CAE tools can be used to speed the PLD design process and provides concrete examples of designs that have been developed using PLD's and a variety of different design techniques. Part one provides an overview of the PLD industry, surveys the programmable logic devices (including PAL, FPLA, EPLD and LCA architectures) currently available and investigates some of the many design tools available for users of these devices. Part two presents techniques that can be used to produce PLD-based designs quickly, efficiently and reliably. Starting with the basics of logic design, it then moves on to advanced PLD design techniques.
