Electronics Fundamentals is more than a textbook: it’s a hands-on electronics teaching system. The text provides both practical and theoretical coverage of electrical, magnetic and electronics concepts. Practical circuits, examples and troubleshooting exercises will help you develop useful analysis skills for resistive, reactive and device circuits.
The 9th Edition preserves the legacy of the 8th Edition while updating its content. Fully revised simulation circuits and tutorials, as well as a laboratory manual, supplement the text. A new tutorial illustrates how to use TI-84 and HP Prime calculators to analyze circuits similar to those in the textbook.

The late Thomas L. Floyd had a master’s degree in electrical engineering (SMU) and bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (UF). He worked as a design engineer at Texas Instruments and senior engineer at Martin-Marietta (now Lockheed-Martin). In addition, he had 5 years’ experience teaching and serving as department head of the Electronics Technology program at Valencia Community College, Orlando, FL, as well as 5 years teaching electronics technology at Mayland Community College, Spruce Pine, NC. Since 1975, Floyd had written textbooks in electronic technology, including Digital Fundamentals, Principles of Electric Circuits, Electronics Fundamentals, Electronic Devices, Electric Circuit Fundamentals, Digital Fundamentals: A Systems Approach, Digital Fundamentals with PLD Programming, Fundamentals of Analog Circuits: A Systems Approach, Science of Electronics: Digital, Analog Fundamentals, Basic Operational Amplifiers and Linear Integrated Circuits, DC/AC Fundamentals: A Systems Approach, and Renewable Energy Systems.
David M. Buchla, BS, MA, is a graduate of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and the University of San Francisco. He taught electronics technology at Yuba Community College for 18 years, where he developed laboratory experiments for all the electronics classes. He also taught courses in computer science for Chapman College. During this time, he helped develop the basic electronics DC/AC curriculum for ITT schools. Prior to his teaching career, he spent 14 years in industry, with extensive technical experience in electronics, instrumentation and measurement, and renewable energy systems. He was a field engineer for Sperry Gyroscope Co., where he taught radar school for the Air Force. Other experience includes instrumentation work at Lawrence Livermore National Lab and Science Applications International Corporation. He is also the principal author of the text Renewable Energy Systems (with Tom Floyd and Tom Kissell) and the text Applied Electronics Instrumentation and Measurements (with Wayne McLachlan). He partnered with Tom Floyd to develop the Science of Electronics book series, coauthor additional books, and develop lab manuals for all of Tom’s books. He also coauthored lab manuals on VHDL and Multisim. He has been a speaker at various technical conferences, and in 2017 was inducted into his high school’s Hall of Fame.
Gary D. Snyder is a graduate of UCLA (BS, biology), Yuba Community College (AS, electronics technology) and CSU Sacramento (BS summa cum laude, computer engineering) and is a member of both Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society and Upsilon Pi Epsilon, the computer sciences honor society. While completing his engineering degree, he taught electronics and computer science classes at Yuba Community College and interned at Intermetrics and Lawrence Berkeley Laboratories. His association with educational publishing began by providing technical assistance on electronics texts by Thomas Floyd in 1989. During his career as an engineer with Bently Nevada Corporation, GE Energy, Advanced Fibre Communications, and Hamilton Company over the next 3 decades, he continued to participate and take a larger role in electronics education by developing tutorials and other supplemental teaching materials and authoring several introductory electronics texts. In addition to the 9th edition of Electronics Fundamentals: Circuits, Devices, and Applications (with Thomas L. Floyd and David M. Buchla), his publications include Introduction to Multisim for the DC/AC Course, Multisim Experiments for DC/AC, Digital, Device Courses (with David M. Buchla) and Problem Solving Guide for DC/AC.
