Sinopsis

For courses that cover and/or include structural steel design using the ASD (Allowable Stress Design) method, such as Structures, Structural Analysis/Design, Design of Steel Structures, Building with Steel, Steel Construction and Steel Detailing in 2/4-year technology programs, architectural programs, and construction programs.

Written specifically for the engineering technology/technician level, this text offers a straightforward, elementary, noncalculus, practical problem-solving approach to the analysis, design, and detailing of structural steel members. Using numerous example problems and a step-by-step solution format, it focuses on the classical and traditional ASD (Allowable Stress Design) method of structural steel design and introduces the LRFD (Load and Resistance Factor Design) method (fast-becoming the method of choice for the future).

De la contraportada

Applied Structural Steel Design, Fourth Edition, continues to serve readers with a basic understanding of the strength and behavior of structural steel members and their interrelationships in simple structural systems. By providing content that is primarily an elementary, noncalculus, practical approach to the design and analysis of structural steel members, using numerous example problems and a step-by-step solution format, this text has remained true to its reader-friendly tradition. This edition, however, is a transitional text that bridges two methods of design that are currently being used: Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) and Allowable Stress Design (ASD). Most engineering professionals agree that LRFD will become the dominant method in the future. However, since the traditional ASD method remains popular and practical and is still widely used, this text uses the traditional method while devoting entire chapters to the LRFD method.

Key features of this edition:
  • The use of a dual system of units: the customary American system as well as the SI system
  • Expanded coverage of plastic design
  • The use of "spreadsheet" homework problems throughout the book
