Andersen's artistic career spans more than forty-five years, and began with thirty years spent as a professional illustrator. During that time, his paintings appeared regularly in such publications as Sports Illustrated and National Geographic, as well as the cover of Time magazine. He created memorable movie posters, and more than a dozen United States postage stamps. Seven of his paintings are in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery. For the past eighteen years, Roy has returned to painting his first love-the American West and its Native People.
