Acerca del autor
Bruce W. Suter received from the University of South Florida the BS and MS degrees in electrical engineering in 1972 and the Ph.D. in computer sciencein 1988. Since 1989, he has been with the Air Force Institute of Technology, where he is a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He has also been with Honeywell, Inc., Litton Industries, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His current research interests include multirate signal processing, wavelet theory, time-frequency analysis, together with applications to special purpose computer architectures and multimedia communications systems.Dr. Suter is a member of Tau Beta Phi, Eta Kappa Nu, and a senior member of IEEE. In addition, he also serves as an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing.

One of the most interesting features of wavelet analysis is the computational aspects of the subject. In particular, computation of the discrete wavelet transform is intimately related to filter bank algorithms in subband coding. The subject of multirate wavelet and signal processing is based on filter banks. Multirate techniques are becoming an indispensable tool for solving electrical engineering problems, and the author of this book is an expert in this field.
This is an elementary and self-contained book, written for the general audience of electrical engineers. Applied mathematicians and other engineering professionals will also benefit from learning the powerful tools of multirate for solving various problems in systems design and analysis, data analysis and compression, object identification and classification, etc.
