An official annual source of national statistics on the environment which brings together data from many different sources and reports. Following publication of the non technical statistical report: "The UK Environment" (HMSO), the digest is aimed at a more technical audience and provides greater detail with less general information and commentary. Data are presented mainly in tabular form, with some maps and charts where appropriate. There are chapters on the global atmosphere, air quality, inland water quality and use, coastal and marine waters, radioactivity, noise, waste and recycling, land use and land cover, wildlife, and public attitudes. For the second year the Statistical Bulletin has been incorporated into an expanded Supplementary Tables chapter.
