Covering an evaluation of the DTI's Flexible Manufacturing Systems Scheme, which operated from 1982 to 1986, this report assesses the extent to which the objectives of the scheme were met, and whether the economic effects of the support represented "value for money". Personal interviews were held with over one-third of the firms which received financial support under the installation and development component of the scheme, as well as with a number of suppliers of advanced manufacturing technology.
