This document details the progress made by Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs against its strategic objectives, and sets out information on its new and planned initiatives over the next five years, under the headings of: environmental leadership; putting sustainable development into practice; and changing the way the Department manages its regulatory activities. Proposals include: a commitment to end fuel poverty for vulnerable households by 2010; a 25 per cent reduction in red tape from DEFRA regulation for businesses and farmers; piloting household incentive schemes for recycling and waste reduction; a review of the UK climate change programme; a new UK sustainable development strategy to be launched in March 2005; and a new regulation forum for the food industry.
