This text shows programmers how to create state-of-the-art multimedia programs incorporating full-motion video, sound, music, graphics and text. Step-by-step instructions and screen shots demonstrate how to play back multimedia program elements, as well as how to record them. It also covers more advanced topics such as how to: integrate video and sound into multimedia applications, modify pre-existing wave (sound) and MIDI files and write dynamic link libraries for authoring languages. In addition to providing a set of easily accessible solutions to the problems facing an author of a multimedia application, the text provides a learning curve for novice programmers who want to "catch the wave" of multimedia software. Some of the example applications that programmers will be able to create after reading this book are: an interactive piano tutor and a MIDI recording studio. The accompanying CD-ROM includes all of the book's code, example wave files, fonts, graphics and sound bites.
