This volume targets current and new users of Oracle8 Server that plan to work with the upcoming release of this database server. Specially, the book explains the software concepts that database server administrators and application developers need to understand to work with Oracle8. The book design has two primary goals. First, the book is a basic/intermediate-level presentation of the primary concepts and software architecture of Oracle8. After reading the book, any type of Oracle8 user should have a solid, big-picture understanding of how Oracle8 fits into the world of serious data management applications. Second, the book is a practical planning guide that should help a current Oracle Server user prepare to migrate Oracle7 databases and corresponding database applications to the next generation server.
