Serdar Yegulalp (Huntington, NY) was the Technology Editor with Windows Magazine from 1994 through 2001. He is also the co-author of Using Windows NT Server 4, Platinum Edition and the Windows 98 Installation and Configuration Handbook from QUE. He is editor of the Windows 2000 Power Users newsletter (www.win2kpowerusers.com), derived from the ongoing column he wrote at Windows Magazine about Windows 2000 and related issues.
Ever stumble upon a perfectly logical, quick fix for a seemingly intractable problem and wonder why no one's ever told you about it? That's the essence of this unique book. Author Serdar Yegulalp presents dozens of alternative and never-before-published ways to use and improve your Windows Server. Each solution is examined first in an overview. Then, Microsoft's "party line" toward addressing the problem is described, followed by the author's undocumented solution and the reasons why this technique may just work better. You'll discover undocumented techniques for installation, networking, multimedia tools, disk checking, migration (single and multiple CPUs), backup, IIS tuning, Active Directory, policies, memory, upgrades, and much more.Push your server into new territory and perform uncustomary tasks Slipstream the latest service pack for Windows into a bootable CD Alter the Windows interface for greater speed and convenience Change kernel-level settings in Windows to get better control of low-level behavior Enhance memory by combining physical upgrades with OS- and BIOS-level tunings Discover tricks for workstation cloning, unattended installations, and other time- and sanity-saving techniques Tweak network settings for file and print servers, Web servers, and database servers Improve maintenance, policy and password control, security, migration, and more Implement enhancements to the NTBACKUP tool and System State Backup function
