The author and editor of dozens of books on technical topics, he edited the leading technical manual in television, The Standard Handbook of Video and Television Engineering. He is also the author of The DTV Handbook, The Standard Handbook of Broadcast Engineering, and The Electronics Handbook, as well as other standard references. Mr. Whitaker is a Fellow of the Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) and of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE). He has also served as Vice President and Board member of the SBE. Mr. Whitaker is Vice President for Standards Development at the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC), the international organization charged with developing voluntary standards for digital television. He resides in Morgan Hill, California.
