In addition to the standard topics usually covered, it also includes a number of modern state-of-the-art topics including: radiative properties of particles, generation of P-N approximation and collimated irradiation. There is coverage of advanced topics including electromagnetic wave theory, gas properties, zonal method, and the Monte Carlo method. A treatment of experimental methods with references provides students with insight into the difficulties of obtaining radiative properties. All analytical developments are followed by examples to encourage greater understanding, and problems, many of which are based on real world problems, give students the opportunity to test what has been learned.
