The Victoria and Albert Museum houses a large collection of patchwork quilts dating from the 18th century to today, many of which can only be seen by special request. For the first time, in this book, a selection of some of the most striking examples have been photographed in full colour and detailed instructions provided, complete with templates and fabric requirements.
The introduction by Linda Parry, a 19th-century specialist who works for the museum's collection of embroideries, provides a general overview of the collection. She discusses the many patchwork techniques used through the. centuries as well as giving historical background to several examples. The illustrations offer a fascinating insight both into the technical creations of these superb examples of patchwork and their dating.
