The Administrative Era of Project Management is Over.

Project management was never supposed to be an admin role. It was intended to drive change, deliver strategy, and lead teams through complexity. But over the years, the profession drifted into coordination and compliance. In many organisations, up to 80% of a Project Manager’s week is now consumed by formatting reports, chasing status updates, and transcribing meeting minutes. You were hired to be a strategic leader. The “Admin Tax” turned you into a high-priced data entry clerk.

AI now offers a once-in-a-career opportunity to reclaim your time and reposition yourself as a leader. The 80/20 Flip is a practical playbook for IT Project Managers who want to stop drowning in paperwork, start leading with intent, and become a Flipped PM.

Written by David W. Crome, a Vice President of IT Global Program Management with over two decades of experience delivering high-stakes projects at major multinational corporations, this book provides a 90-day roadmap to help you move from a Doer to a Director.

Start the Flip: What You Will Explore This is not a book about theoretical AI. It is a playbook for safe, incremental experimentation. Inside, you will learn how to:

• Use the CLEAR Framework: a simple prompting structure that gets professional, expert-level results from any AI assistant.

• Audit Your Workload: identify which tasks can be offloaded to AI today to create immediate breathing room.

• Build Trust with AI: use the Traffic Light Protocol to decide when to let AI run and when you must remain the “Human in the Loop.”

• Modernise Your Reporting: move away from static “Zombie Plans” and toward self-updating project systems.

• Focus on the Human Edge: double down on the high-value negotiation and leadership skills that AI cannot replicate.

Every chapter includes copy-paste prompts and a practical assignment to help you test these systems in your real-world environment without over-committing or risking your reputation. Readers also gain access to the companion Project AI Toolkit to implement these frameworks immediately.
