Facsimile of the 1922 Sanborn fire-insurance atlas of Leominster, Massachusetts, reproduced in full color from the Library of Congress copy. It covers the Worcester County comb and celluloid city of 20,000 people on the Nashua River, from the stores, banks, halls and theatre of Monument Square, Main Street and Mechanic Street out along Monoosnock Brook and the railroads to the comb, celluloid, piano-case and toy works, the schools, churches and residential streets, and North Leominster and South Leominster.
The twenty-eight numbered sheets that follow work block by block from the stores, banks and offices around Monument Square and along Main Street, Mechanic Street, Central Street, West Street, Water Street and Merriam Avenue - the Municipal Building, the Post Office, the Public Library, the Central Fire Station, the National Bank and Savings Bank, the Masonic and I. O. O. F. halls, the Rialto Theatre, the Central and Columbia hotels and the Enterprise printing office - through the New York, New Haven & Hartford passenger station and freight house, the Boston & Maine freight depot and North Leominster depot, the electric freight depot and the Worcester Consolidated Street Railway car barns and power station, the Bay State, Goodale, Howe, Royal, Standard, Star and Spill Bros. comb works, the Blodgett, Damon, Kingman, Paton, Tilton and Cook and Yale Novelty celluloid works, the Viscoloid Company and Pyroxylin Plastic Manufacturing Company plants, the Du Pont chemical and plastic storage, the Lees Button Company, the Queen Hairpin Company, the Jewett, Richardson, Smith, Webster and Wellington piano and piano-case factories, the Lambert & Latimer and Rowley & Shaw wooden-toy works, the Merriam-Hall furniture factory, the F. A. Whitney carriage, paper-box and fiber-board mills, the Rockwell Woolen and Leominster Worsted mills, the Cluett, Peabody shirt factory, the National Overall Company, the Harrison Leather and Pyrotex Leather works, the Hudson Parer Company, the Danforth Chemical Company, the Wheelwright paper works, the gas, electric light, ice, fuel and steam laundry companies and the coal, lumber and hay yards, to the new and old Leominster hospitals and the Monoosnock Rest Sanitarium, the High School, the Field, Pierce, Lincoln, Bennett and Priest Street schools, the Manual Training School, St. Cecilia's parochial school and convent, St. Cecilia's and St. Leo's Roman Catholic churches, the First Baptist, First Congregational (Unitarian), Pilgrim Congregational, Congregational Church of Christ, Methodist Episcopal, St. Mark's Episcopal and Universalist churches, the Haws Memorial Chapel, and the residential streets out to North Leominster and South Leominster.
In June 1922 the Sanborn Map Company of New York surveyed Leominster for the fire-insurance trade, drawing the business district at fifty feet to the inch and the outer streets at one hundred feet to the inch. Every building is shown to scale and color-coded for construction (yellow for frame, pink for brick, blue for stone), with heights, uses, windows, party walls, hydrants, water mains and fire stations all marked. The index lists every street and every named business, church, school, hotel, mill and works with the sheet it appears on, and the key map places the colored sheet grid over the whole city.
This Exile Books edition is an unabridged facsimile republication of the atlas: twenty-nine of the thirty numbered map sheets, 1 to 28 and 30, sheet 1 being the combined title, key map and index sheet with its report on the water works and fire department (sheet 29, covering West Leominster, is not in the Library of Congress copy), the others covering the city out to North and South Leominster, printed at 8.5 x 11 inches on premium color paper. Ideal for local historians, genealogists, architects, preservationists and anyone tracing a Leominster address back to 1922.

We ask all customers to contact us for authorisation should they wish to return their order. Orders returned without authorisation may not be credited.
If you wish to return, please contact us within 14 days of receiving your order to obtain authorisation.
Returns requested beyond this time will not be authorised.

Efectos del desistimiento
