Facsimile of the 1913 Sanborn fire-insurance atlas of Goldsboro, North Carolina, reproduced in full color from the Library of Congress copy. It covers the whole Wayne County railroad town of 12,000 people, from the stores, hotels and Court House along Centre, Walnut and John Streets and the Southern, Atlantic Coast Line and Norfolk-Southern depots, through the cotton, lumber, brick and tobacco works, to the residential streets of Little Washington and Webtown and the State Hospital two miles west of the city.
The twenty-nine numbered sheets that follow work block by block from the stores, banks, hotels and offices along Centre Street, Walnut Street, Chestnut Street, John Street and Mulberry Street - the County Court House and Jail, the City Hall with its stables and storage warehouse, the Fire Department, the Post Office, the Armory, the Messenger Opera House, the B. P. O. E. Club House, the Argus printing and publishing house, the Weil Brothers department store, the Hotel Kennon and annexes, the Arlington, Central and Terminal hotels, the Galloway House, Horton House, Utter House and Water's Inn - through the Southern Railway, Norfolk-Southern and Atlantic Coast Line freight depots, the Goldsboro Cotton Seed Oil Company, Robinson's cotton ginnery, the Durham Hosiery Mill No. 5, the Borden yarn mills and Borden Brick and Tile Company, the Goldsboro, Weil and Wayne Red brick works, the Empire and Utility veneer, saw and planing mills, the Griffin manufacturing company, the Goldsboro Planing Mill and Furniture Manufacturing companies, the Goldsboro Buggy Factory, the Harris wagon shop, Dewey Brothers' foundry and machine shop, the Royal and Borden mattress factory, the Wayne Agricultural Works, the Wayne Hardwood Company, the Planters' tobacco warehouse and Winsted's tobacco stemmery, the Coca-Cola and Pepsi-Cola bottling works, the Goldsboro ice, gas, floral, storage warehouse and steam laundry companies, the Indian Refining and Standard Oil companies, the Carolina Power and Light electric plant and rice mills and the city water works pumping station, to the Goldsboro Hospital, Dr. Spicer's sanitarium, the Odd Fellows' Orphans' Home, the State Hospital for Insane, the High School, the Goldsboro Graded Schools, the Industrial School and the colored graded and public schools, St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, St. Stephen's Episcopal, St. Paul's Methodist and the First Baptist, Presbyterian, Primitive Baptist, Friends and Free Will Baptist churches, St. James A. M. E. Zion and the colored Baptist, Methodist and Presbyterian churches, the Ohef-Sholom Temple synagogue, Herman Park and Willow Dale Cemetery, and the residential streets of Little Washington and Webtown.
In 1913 the Sanborn Map Company of New York surveyed Goldsboro for the fire-insurance trade, drawing the city at fifty feet to the inch. Every building is shown to scale and color-coded for construction (yellow for frame, pink for brick, blue for stone), with heights, uses, windows, party walls, hydrants, water mains and fire stations all marked. The index lists every street and every named business, church, school, hotel, mill and works with the sheet it appears on, and the key map places the colored sheet grid over the whole city.
This Exile Books edition is an unabridged facsimile republication of the atlas: all thirty numbered map sheets, 1 to 30, sheet 1 being the combined title, key map and index sheet with its report on the water works and fire department, the others covering the city from the business blocks of Centre Street to the mills and railroad yards, Little Washington, Webtown and the State Hospital west of the city, printed at 8.5 x 11 inches on premium color paper. Ideal for local historians, genealogists, architects, preservationists and anyone tracing a Goldsboro address back to 1913.

If you wish to return, please contact us within 14 days of receiving your order to obtain authorisation.

Efectos del desistimiento

Excepciones al derecho de desistimiento
