Henri Landin wrote and published this work as an update of the reference work by Jean-Jacques Perret (1730-1784), The Art of the Cutler: Part I (1771) & The Art of the Cutler expert in Surgical Instruments: Second Part (1772). Perret's father was a cutler & Perret apprenticed his father over the course of his childhood. Arriving in Paris, Perret sought out the most skilled and renowned master cutler in the capital to offer his services. The master cutler, who mainly manufactured surgical tools (a specialty unfamiliar to Perret), ordered him to make a lancet, an instrument whose manufacture required the greatest care and the most extensive knowledge on the manipulation of steel. The perfection of the instrument Perret made for the master cutler was so extraordinary and the turn of the lancet so new that the cutler, named Foucou, became his friend and protector. Perret's career in surgical tools and other forms of cutlery was so widespread and renowned, his store on rue de la Tixeranderie quickly became the busiest in Paris. France, Italy, Spain, Savoy, England, Germany & Russia all paid their respects to his mastery. Henri Landin, in this work, presents faithful testimony and an exhaustive inventory of the techniques used in cutlery in the first half of the 19th century. Three large fold-out plates with upwards of fifty different illustrations between them. Incredibly scarce & interesting. N° de ref. del artículo RAREF1835HOQX
