SET of 40 annual volumes of ISLENDINGADAGURINN [program booklet of the annual Icelandic Festival held in Manitoba], including: 1929, 1941, 1949, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1956, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1964, 1967, 1969, 1971-83, 1984, 1988, 1989, 1990-94, 1997-2000. PUBLISHER: Winnipeg and Gimli, Manitoba: [Icelandic Festival Committeee of Manitoba]; this is an annual. Date of first issue unknown, but likely late 1800s. LANGUAGE: Icelandic language predominates until the 1940s; thereafter mostly in English; continues today, almost entirely in English. CONTENTS: Poems and addresses by prominent writers and community leaders in every issue. Includes contributions by leading poets and prose writers of the Icelandic Canadian and to a lesser extent Icelandic American communities (e.g., poet Guttormur Guttormsson of Manitoba); Many illustrations from photos of this ethnic/linguistic community in celebration. It is the major and longest-running ethnic festival in Manitoba and it attracts individuals from all over North America and Iceland. Many illustrations of dignitaries, special guests, poets, etc.; many advertisements, some illustrated. Occasionally the booklets include laid-in copies of lists of events and song sheets. Sporting contests and musical and other artistic performances are described. CONDITION: all issues are in Very Good condition or better.
