CONDITION DESCRIPTION: Small amount of rubbing and wear to spine and edges. Interior has gift inscription (in pencil) on front free endpaper, else the contents are very clean and tight. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: Joseph R. Walker was a mountain man and experienced scout. He established the segment of the California Trail, the primary route for the emigrants to the gold fields during the California gold rush, from Fort Hall, Idaho to the Truckee River. The Walker River and Walker Lake in Nevada were named for him by John C. Fremont. Howes W165: Presents all available information on an eminent figure of the early fur-trade era, the leader, in 1836, of the first trapping expedition into California over the Sierras".
