Alfred A Knopf, Inc., 1936, New York, New York, USA. Fine in Very Good+ Dust Jacket. First American Edition, but NOT first printing, even though date of 1936 on title page agrees with date on copyright page. In 1936, Knopf published a statement that for more than two and a half years, their first printings bore the words "first edition" or "first American edition". See Zempel and Verkler, First Editions: A Guide to Identification, 2d ed., @ 144-145. This copy lacks those words. Text Block is clean, white, tight, straight and square with blue topstain, and no markings of any kind. Binding is bright tan-colored buckram, with sharp, dark blue decorative lines and dark brown title, etc., to front cover and spine, with all edges square. Dust Jacket is intact but for two chips at the spine edges, with folds discretely reinforced from behind with archival (pH neutral) materials. 6" x 8 1/2". 567 pages. Translated from the German by H. T. Lowe-Porter. This volume contains twenty-four (24) novellas and short stories from the period 1897 to 1929, including Felix Krull and Death in Venice. N° de ref. del artículo 000204
