Spine and edges rubbed, upper hinge slightly tender, top corners very worn. Small bookplate, dated 1857, to front pastedown. Pages browned and lightly foxed otherwise a clean and sound copy of the extraordinary court case that followed the public scandal between George Spencer Churchill, fifth Duke of Marlborough and Charles Sturt, who had discovered that his wife had been having an affair with Churchill.
