in-8 rel. plein chag. havane (13,5 x 21), 204 p., E.O., déchirure en page de titre restaurée, intérieur propre sans rousseurs, reliure moderne, dos orné à 5 faux-nerfs, tranche de tête dorée, exemplaire bien relié, bon état. Jeanne de Luz de Saint Rémy, de Valois, comtesse de La Motte s est rendue célèbre par l Affaire du collier de Marie-Antoinette et à l ascendant qu elle possédait sur le Cardinal de Rohan. Dans ses Mémoires, édités à Londres où elle s était réfugiée, elle accuse formellement Marie-Antoinette de complicité dans cette affaire. Ce pamphlet, dont l édition entière fut rachetée à prix d or par la Cour de France, fut néanmoins réimprimé plusieurs fois sous un autre titre "Vie de la Comtesse de La Motte". Charnières et dos un peu frottés, salissures à certaines pages. Rare édition en petit format.Descendante des Valois, Jeanne de Luz épousa en 1780 le Comte de La Motte attaché au comte d'Artois. Elle fut prise en amitié par Marie-Antoinette et devint l'héroïne de l'affaire du Collier. Emprisonnée à la Salpêtrière, elle parvint à s'échapper et à rejoindre son mari en Angleterre.
