** 1ST EDITION, 1822 ** 3/4 BOUND IN LEATHER OVER CLOTH (LINEN) BOARDS ** COMPLETE AND INTACT, ALL PAGES PRESENT ** Published in Albany, NY, by Packard & Van Benthuysen, 1822, with 38 page letter, followed by a Supplement and Appendix of additional related materials. The controversy surrounding Elkanah Watson and the credit for predicting and projecting the Erie Canal. A true historical document. This is NOT a facsimile reprint, this is the actual pamphlet as published by a group of supporters with the permission of Troup. The book is bound in three-quarter black leather over black cloth-covered (linen) boards, with the title on the spine embossed in gilt. The top exterior page edges are gilt-edged. The book is clean, square and straight, firm and tight in its binding, no pages are loose, missing, or torn. The interior hinges are sound and undamaged, and while the leather is cracked over the exterior hinges, the boards are still well-attached. The corners, though worn, have not been bumped. The pages are moderately age-toned, with scattered foxing, but all pages are clean, and all text is crisp and legible. There is no writing, underlining, highlighting or markings of any such kind in the book. The leather is dried and cracked in spots, and the leather has chipped away from some areas of the spine. All the cloth on the boards is intact, untorn, and unfrayed, and shows virtually no wear at all.
