CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: From the Preface: A regimental and brigade history of Fourteenth Illinois Cavalry, including the services in brigade of the Fifth Indiana Cavalry, the Sixty-fifth Indiana Mounted Infantry, the Eighth Michigan Cavalry, McLaughlin's Ohio Squadron, the Sixteenth Illinois Cavalry, and the Sixth Indiana Cavalry. The Fourteenth Cavalry was recruited and organized in the fall and winter of 1862, with headquarters at Peoria. It participated in pursuing Morgan during his raid, and later had engagements at Cumberland Gap, Dandridge, and the Atlanta Campaign where they joined Stoneman on his raid to Macon Georgia in July 1864, suffering significant causalities. Requiring re-fitting, the regiment returned to Kentucky and was at Franklin and the Battle for Nashville. the main column of the Fourteenth, during its term of service, marched over 10,000 miles.
