Green cloth with gilt titling to spine, printer stain top edge - lightly soiled, edges of covers soiled and bent slightly inwards, front corner bumped, light sunning to spine, light foxing, edges of text block soiled, pages toned. Color folded map included, bound inside. First edition. Good condition. The Danakil area explored here "forms an irregular rectangle, some 400 miles long from north to south, by 150 miles wide, and is an upraised sea -bed." This book recounts the expedition that traversed the Danakil from south to north. "During our journey of three and a half months we marched some 800 miles.In these pages I have related the vicissitudes of our journey as I wrote them in my journal at the time of their occurrence.".
