Spine slightly faded, covers a little marked, corners slightly bumped, mild pinholes on prelims. Inscribed by the author, "Autographed with much pleasure for the wife of the author of 'Everything is Thunder' [J.L. Hardy], endorsing pages 20-7. A.S.M. Hutchinson. Tunbridge Wells. Jan. 1936"; loosely inserted an autograph letter signed from the author to Mrs Hardy, 1p. 8vo, Tunbridge Wells, 26 January 1936. In Everything is Thunder (1935), the one-legged war hero Jocelyn Lee Hardy (married 1919 Kathleen Hutton-Potts) tells the story, reluctantly admired by the novelist A.S.M. Hutchinson (Arthur Stuart-Menteth Hutchinson), of a German prostitute "who, during the war, succours and, at the price of her own life, saves an escaped British prisoner".
