6 1/2 inches x 9 in., frontispiece; title-page with bird design; dedication page; preface; contents; list of illustrations; viii, 168 pp., illustrated with various size wood engravings; some poems have prose introductions giving their backgrounds. Green cloth with elaborate titling in black on gold on the spine, and with designs on the front cover, dark brown, coated endpapers, all edges gilt. The spine ends, cover corners show light wear. The author's signed inscriptions are on the first front flyleaf: Mrs. Margaretta I. Leaming. Many Happy New Years. From Benj F. Taylor, Jan. 1st 1880. Brother Charles, With the wish that all Songs of Yesterday may be changed, one day, into "songs in the night," again this book is given where I trust it may long remain. Benj. F.
