Gorgeous, black softcover book, with beautiful gilt title impressions both on the front board and across the spine. The book is in reasonably good condition, normal wear and marks apply consistent with use and age. Tiny tear to top front corner board, please see photo. Whilst I have listed the book as a soft cover book, it is an extraordinary thickish cover, nearly like a bible or hymn book cover, the black finish is like a faux leather (it could be a very thin piece of leather, whatever it is its really nice feel to it.) on thin board. All 714 pages have the most fabulous gilt edge on each three sides, so when the book is closed the shiny gilt edging comes through. Nice tight binding and all text, and pages are in good, clean, readable order. Small inscription inside on first marbleised page. Both the front inside and back pages are marlbleised in a green and white colour. There is a wonderful black and white image of Ralph Waldo Emerson with a copy of his signature below, on the preceeding title page, please see photo. Printed by Ballantyne, Hanson & Co. at the Ballantyne Press, London & Edinburgh. A wonderful book that is worth preserving for future generations and would enhance any stylish home library.
