Descripción Hyperion Paperback Edition, 1976. Trade Paperback. Estado de conservación: Good. Reprint. Wrappers rubbed, spine toned. 301 pp. A science fiction novel by the author of The Invisible Man, Time Machine, and War of the Worlds. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: "Herbert George Wells (21 September 1866 - 13 August 1946) was an English author, now best known for his work in the science fiction genre. He was also a prolific writer in many other genres, including contemporary novels, history, politics and social commentary. Together with Jules Verne, Wells has been referred to as "The Father of Science Fiction". Wells was an outspoken socialist and sympathetic to pacifist views, although he supported the First World War once it was under way, and his later works became increasingly political and didactic. His middle period novels (1900-1920) were less science-fictional; they covered lower-middle class life (The History of Mr Polly) and the 'New Woman' and the Suffragettes (Ann Veronica)."Keywords: SCIENCE FICTION FANTASY NOVEL CLASSICS WORLD LITERATURE. Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****.The Sea Lady is a fantasy novel written by H. G. Wells that has some of the aspects of a fable. The inspiration for the novel was Wells s glimpse of May Nisbet, the daughter of the Times drama critic, in a bathing suit, when she came to visit at Sandgate, Wells having agreed to pay her school fees after her father s death. Plot The intricately narrated story involves a mermaid who comes ashore on the southern coast of England in 1899. Feigning a desire to become part of genteel society, the mermaid s real design is to seduce Chatteris, a man she saw some years ago in the South Seas-near Tonga, who has taken her fancy. This she reveals in a conversation with the narrator s second cousin Melville, a friend of the family who adopts Miss Waters. As a supernatural being, she is unimpressed with the fact that Chatteris is engaged to a Miss Glendower and is trying to make amends for his wastrel youth by entering politics. In the end, Chatteris is unable to resist the mermaid s alluring charms, though succumbing means his death. Nº de ref. de la librería APC9781548919641
