He was India's delegate to the League of Nations, and one of the founding members of the Indian Liberal Party. Here, he had accompanied Sir Samuel Wilson to East Africa to facilitate talks with the Indian communities about the Hilton Young Commission Report (1929). This report had recommended administrative union between British controlled territories in East Africa to save costs and foster development, and possible later union with Central African territories. It had rejected the claim of Kenyan Asians for the same voting rights as Europeans. Sastri presents his report in the form of a letter to the Secretary of the Government of India, Dept of Education, Health and Lands, Simla, dated Bangalore 31 August 1929. He describes the arrangements for his trip, summarises Wilson's discussions in Kenya, Tanganyika and Uganda, and makes recommendations. Appendices include memoranda submitted by the various Indian groups including the Eastern Africa Indian National Congress, Central Council of Indian Associations in Uganda, and the Indian Association, Dar es Salaam.
