8vo (22.5 cm), XIII, [1], 285, [1] pp. Publisher's black and brown cloth, dust jacket, top edge painted red (dj stained and clipped, spine sunned). The first edition of this volume was printed by John Johnson at the Oxford University Press. George Holbrook Jackson (1874-1948), a British journalist, writer, and publisher, was widely recognized as one of the leading bibliophiles of his time. This collection of essays serves as a companion to the renowned "Anatomy of Bibliomania". "The title of this book is somewhat misleading, for although it is about the printing of books, it is not about the technicalities of printing. The theme of the first two sections is the art of printing from the point of view of readers and authors rather than that of printers. The need of the reader are upheld against those who would degrade typography by meanness or ostentation; and I have attempted to show the influence of authors on printing. The miscellaneous pieces in the third and final section explain themselves. Each has been written to celebrate some recent typographical occasion." (from the Preface). N° de ref. del artículo 008945
