Descripción Kelly & Walsh, Limited, Shanghai, China, 1934. Decorative Cloth. Estado de conservación: Very Good Minus. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Poor. Schiff, Friedrich Ilustrador. Presumed First Edition. Preseumed first and only printing of the first edition. Likely printed and bound in Shanghai. Tan linen-like cloth binding, with crisp black-stamped lettering to the spine and front board. Also with pristine B&W photo inset to the front board. Gently bumped spine head and tail, and gently abraded upper front corner. Front board with moderate concave warping. Light soiling to the uppermost part of the boards yet in the main a clean and presentable binding. 14.75 x 10.5 inches. Text block firmly bound in. With 87 numbered pages, the text variously printed in red and black. Numerous photos, mostly B&W but a few hand-colored. Original photos taken with a Rolleiflex camera. Numerous drawings throughout by F. H. Schiff, a few of which are in color. Also with a fabulous and somewhat whimsical full-color, full-page map of Peking. Astonishingly clean interior, free of any evident demerits. A large remnant of the front wrapper of the dust jacket is present. Gently read. No remainder marks. Down-graded to a Very Good Minus copy on account of the condition of the binding. With thanks to Southeran's of Sackville Street for the following: "A gentle evocation of Peking. The photographs show various aspects of everyday life in the city. Schiff's thumb-nail sketches relate a narrative in pictures of Mr Pim and Mr Wu as they observe goings-on in Peking. A fine collaboration between the Dutch author-photographer and Friedrich Schiff (1908-1968) who was born in Austria and came to China in 1930 where he worked as caricaturist for several newspapers and illustrated books. Ellen Thorbecke, who is using her maiden name here, was the wife of the Dutch ambassador to China, a Sinophile, who wrote a few books on Shanghai and other Chinese cities, all splendid book productions, as here." Size: Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. Nº de ref. de la librería 007888
