The History of London: Illustrated by Views in London & Westminster. Engraved by John Woods from Original Drawings by Shepherd, Garland, Salmon, Topham, Clarke, Browne, Roberts, etc, Bound in (possibly the publishers' ? ) brown blind-stamped cloth boards with gilt titling and decoration to the spine and the Title on the front board. Extremities rubbed and scuffed to the corners and with some chipping and small loss here and there. Overall sound and tight, as are the inner hinges. DATED 1838 at the foot of the Printed Title page. Plain lemon endpapers with 2 names from the same family (White) on the ffep. (iv) + 201 pp + (1 - Directions for the Binder) + (1- Index). Engraved Title page and a Printed Title page. 29 full page engraved plates + 1 large engraved vignette Title page - all as called for in the 'Directions to the Binder' - but on different pages to those indicated. The page fore-edges are browning/toned but uniformly. I plate has been repaired neatly to the edges, but the image and title is complete and all visible. There is some foxing in the text, and some very occasional spotting - the foxing is mainly to the blank edges of the plates, some quite brown - others quite light - See Images where I have shown the best and the worst. (From the Preface) " This will be found to be the only "History of London" in which the narrative is brought down to the reign of the present Sovereign, Her Majesty Queen Victoria." .
