Reliure demi veau, plats marbrés, titre sur premier plat (étiquette ) Très bon état. -- 2 series complete in one volume, each with coloured wrappers, title page and 14 colour prints by Japanese artists illustrating verse fables on facing pages, 28 plates in all, printed in Tokyo in the Japanese manner on crepe paper with the leaves conjoined at the fore edges, bound in later calf backed marbled boards with leather label on upper board, slightly worn at corners, spine chipped, upper joint cracked and weak, internally fine throughout, FIRST EDITION; a companion to the same editor's Fables of La Fontaine, also printed in Tokyo, employing eminent Japanese artists, and produced for the French market where Japanese prints were highly fashionable at this period. Confusingly there are two formats on the market, this one, and the other in octavo, with the prints spread over two leaves, though this oblong quarto is generally preferred . Because of being bound up at an early date this set is particularly well preserved internally . 1 vol volumes. Joint du premier plat faible.
