Brown cloth with light discoloration occurring at bottom corners of both boards. Brown top edge. Endpaper plans illustrated by Spratling. Color frontispiece portrait of Spratling by Siqueiros. Several drawings by Spratling decorate the text. Introduction by Budd Schulberg. Spratling regales readers of his autobiography with his numerous personal adventures, intriguing literary and artistic accomplishments, and both his fleeting and long-lasting friendships with Sherwood Anderson, John Huston, Diego Rivera, Hart Crane, John Dos Passos, Katherine Anne Porter, David Siqueiros, Miguel Covarrubias, and, of course, William Faulkner who was his New Orleans' French Quarter roommate and European travel partner. Progressing quickly from his childhood to his college days at Auburn, Spratling spends a majority of the text relating events during his architecture professorship at Tulane University and cumulating, of course, in his move to Mexico in 1930 and his long tenure as dean of Taxco silversmiths whose studio earned world-renown for its Mayan and Olmec influenced designs.
