Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live among the people in Africa? The Rafiki Foundation gave me the opportunity to teach at their Girls Center near Kampala, Uganda. I lived in the Rafiki Village which was home to twenty orphaned children with whom I shared dinner each evening. This book was written from my journal where I recorded my daily duties and personal experiences. Despite overwhelming disease and poverty, I watched God at work. I will forever be warmed by the memory of my fourteen teenage students who came each day from surrounding villages of mud huts nestled among bright green foliage. They were so bright and eager to learn. I'm pleased to share this day by day experience with you and hope you can visualize Africa through my story. I was encouraged to write this book after reading Bill Bryson's African Diary which he wrote to benefit CARE International. Life is all about ordinary people living extraordinary lives by the power of the Holy Spirit.About the Author:
Roberta Van Hise, who is called by her nickname, 'Bobbe', lives near San Diego, CA. She has taught Bible studies in her community, also the local jail where she has encouraged hundreds of inmates over the past many years with the Word of God. Currently she is working with a program called 'Veterans Moving Forward' teaching classes in Creative Writing for veterans who are inmates. Bobbe has taught in public schools, loves to read, exercise, and sometime cook. She became a blogger several years ago. 'BOBBE'S BIBLE BLOG' has attracted thousands of readers from all over the world and has written two books from her blogs, 'Blogging God's Word', and 'The God Who Sees Me'. Her greatest desire is to bring people into a knowledge of God's sovereignty and grace. The Bible teaches that faith is a gift and sanctification comes from God alone. Bobbe and her husband, Van, have five grown children, grandsons and a great-granddaughter. They live with their rescued Chihuahua, Rudy, who rules the household. In addition to the Rafiki mission in Africa, they traveled to Brussels, Belgium to work in a print shop that supplied Christian educational material for the French speaking area of Africa.
