It provides notes on the text containing much new material for elucidation of the language and ideas of the play, together with appendices on such subjects as "The Tempest on the Jacobean stage" and the music of the play (including music never before printed). Most im- portant, it has a long critical introduction, which not only gives a full account of previous investigations, but presents a completely new theory of the meaning of the play, supported by detailed scholar- ship. The present edition of Professor Ker- mode's contains a great number of further changes. The Introduction has been slight- ly enlarged, some important notes have been entirely rewritten, there are a few pages of additional notes, and there are over 200 minor alterations to commentary and apparatus.
