Couverture souple. Condición: Très bon. Edition originale. In-8° , broché , 206 pages "The definitive version of Lorca's masterpiece, in language that is as alive and molten today as was the original."--John Ashbery Newly translated for the first time in ten years, Federico García Lorca's Poet in New York is an astonishing depiction of a tumultuous metropolis that changed the course of poetic expression in both Spain and the Americas. Written during Lorca's nine months at Columbia University at the beginning of the Great Depression, Poet in New York is widely considered one of the most important books Lorca produced. This influential collection portrays a New York City populated with poverty, racism, social turbulence, and solitude--a New York intoxicating in its vitality and beauty. After the tragedy of September 11, 2001, poets Pablo Medina and Mark Statman were struck by how closely this seventy-year-old work spoke to the atmosphere of New York. They were compelled to create a new English version using a contemporary poet's eye, which upholds Lorca's surrealistic technique, mesmerizing complexity, and fierce emotion unlike any other translation to date. A defining work of modern literature, Poet in New York is a thrilling exposition of one American city that continues to change our perspective on the world around us.

Kartoniert. Condición: Sehr gut. 1. Aufl. 21x13 cm. Erste Auflage, 131 p. OPpd. Guter Allgemeinzustand. USADO / GEBRAUCHT / USED.

Tapa blanda editorial ilustrad.

When he seeks natural forces - in flowers, animals, the negroes of Harlem, seasonal changes - they are trapped or engulfed in blood and slime, or wander like souls in agony through a desolation of sterile materials.he completed the book with further denunciations of the city's hateful civilisation.' Softcover. Condición: Very good. First Spanish language edition. 187pp., illustrated with four plates (by Lorca himself), two in color. Very good in the publisher's white wraps with yapped edges. Some very light foxing to extremities (the contents clean), and minor bumping, rather inevitably, to the bottom edges. Most pages unopened. In the original glassine, which is age-toned, and has some mild tears and small chips to the extremities, most notably at the spine ends. Despite the noted flaws, a well-preserved copy of this fragile book. This is the second edition of the book to appear on the market; the first was bilingual. Lorca had spent nearly two years in New York in 1929 and 1930, where he witnessed firsthand the fallout from the Wall Street crash, along with the Harlem Renaissance and other exciting happenings in the city, which evolved into this accomplished volume. Lorca was murdered by Fascists in Spain in 1936, and the collection was published posthumously.

First Illustrated Edition, the First Edition solely in Spanish, following the bilingual Spanish-English edition translated by Rolfe Humphries and published just a few weeks earlier in New York. With four full page plates from drawings by Garcia Lorca, two in colour and two in black and white. Titlepage printed in black and red. 4to, publisher's original printed wrappers and with the jacket band announcing "Un libro inedito de Federico Garcia Lorca." Now preserved in a folding case. 187pp. A fine, uncut copy, very well preserved indeed. FIRST ILLUSTRATED EDITION AND FIRST SOLELY IN SPANISH OF Garcia Lorca's final published cycle of poems. The poems were published posthumously in 1940, but were written during his residency in New York in 1929 and 1930. His experiences in New York, amongst the disenfranchised African American population, transformed him into a passionate advocate of the theatre of social action. This edition followed the bilingual New York publication by only a few weeks. It is the first to include his art work. Lorca rose to international acclaim as one of the members of the Generation of '27, an influential group of poets that arose in Spanish literary circles. He was presumed killed by anti-Communist forces just days after the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War.
