On first vol contains what appears to be the first printed edition of the anonymous Poema del Cid, Spain' s earliest and most famed epic poem originally composed in the 12th or 13th century to celebrate the exploits of warlord Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar El Campeador. The poem was preserved in manuscript form in Burgos. Vol II the complete works of Berceo, Vol III the Poem of Alejandro Magno, and Vol IV the Arcipreste de Hita's Libro de buen amor. W15.

Devoto (1916-2001) was an important intellectual figure who counted among his close friends many of the great literary figures of 20th-century Spain, France, and Latin America.
