Estado de conservación: En buen estado, algunas hojas con manchas en los márgenes y diminutas marcas de polilla sin afectar a la lectura. Encuadernación nueva Holandesa piel. Notas: El eminente Hugonote humanista suizo Isaac Casaubon (1559-1614) estableció el texto definitivo del Deipnosophistae en 1597, y se imprimió al lado de la traducción Latina de Iacobi Dalechampii Cadomensis. El comentario u observación de Casaubon sobre el Deipnosophistae apareció algunos años después, y fue frecuentemente encuadernado junto con el texto bilingüe en Latín y Griego de Iacobi Dalechampii Cadomensis, como en este caso. Deipnosophistae es una obra formada por 15 libros y que data del siglo III d.C. El título alude a los filósofos o sabios que, mientras disfrutan de los placeres en la mesa, conversan en profundidad sobre los más diversos temas. Fue creado por el escritor y gramático Ateneo nacido en Náucratis (antigua ciudad Egipcia perteneciente al Imperio Griego). Contiene referencias a la literatura, gramática, filosofía, historia, derecho, música, medicina, juegos y sexualidad que han sido narrados por el autor a través de los comensales o invitados que en ocasiones son personajes históricos. La suma de diálogos a la manera de Platón, estableciendo turnos sobre estos temas, nos ofrece una lectura rica y multifacética. Es una obra de referencia y valiosa fuente de información, pues incluye gran cantidad de citas textuales y detalles sobre la vida cotidiana, la concepción de la vida y las ideas, así como pasajes de obras de escritores hoy perdidas.
