Segunda edición muy rara en comercio. Esta importante novela pastoril se habia publicado por vez primera en Valencia, 1609. Cristobal Suárez de Figueroa (Valladolid 1571 - 1644, Nápoles?), aunque doctor en derecho y auditor del ejército (en Italia hasta principios de 1604), se estableció en su ciudad natal dedicandose al noble arte de la escritura y empezó con la traducción de El pastor Fido (1602), y ya trabajó en su novela pastoril "La constante Amarilis", donde se narran los amores de don Juan Hurtado de Mendoza y de doña María de Cárdenas. Publicó diversas obras más, entre ellas "Plaza universal de todas las ciencias" (Madrid 1615), y en 1617, aparecería su obras mas conocida e importante "El pasajero" (1617), esta le dió fama y le reportó muchos enemigos entre ellos diversos literatos. Se le tiene por un neoaristotélico y sus referencias a la literatura de su época son continuas y de gran interés por sus fobias. Suárez de Figueroa, moralista y duro crítico, da una visión ácida de la sociedad de su tiempo con un prosa admirable. Portada grabada al cobre, 7 hojas, 565 páginas, 9 hojas. Encuadernación de la época en plena piel, triple filete dorado en los planos, nervios y hierros dorados en el lomo, cortes dorados. Edición bilingue castellano - francés con texto enfrentado. Garcia dated 1997, slipcase, old ownership inscription to title crossed out, a fine copy. First edition of this account of the deeds of Garcia Hurtado de Mendoza (1535-1609), Captain General of Peru and from 1590-1596 Viceroy of Peru. The work was commissioned by his family to counter the epic poem La Araucana, written by Alonso Ercilla y Zuniga (1533-1596?), disparaging Hurtado de Mendoza's brutal wars against the Araucana Indians during his time as governor of Chile. The work is also the second main printed source for Mendaña's second voyage in search of the Solomons in 1595 and the discovery of the Marquesas, actually named Marquesas de Mendoza in honour of the Captain General.
