Encuadernación de tapa dura. Condición: Bien. 1ª Edición. In-8º. VIII + 204. Inscribed by Eduardo Poirier. Bound in full blue calf 4 raised bands, blue velvet endpapers, slipcase. Frontispiece resized and restored. One of the most difficult books to find of Ruben Dario, he wrote Emelina encouraged by Eduardo Poirier, who proposed him to participate in the Varela contest, established by the newspaper La Unión de Valparaíso. This contest was closed on August 1, so he had to write it in ten days and without prior preparation. For this reason, perhaps, he did not get any recognition. This novel was recently published in 1887, obtaining a regular reception from the critics. Francisco Contreras, a studious writer of his work, commented in those years: "Written in a career, in ten days, this novel suffers from the deficiencies of improvisation and the lack of expertise of Darío in a genre he should never master. it is arbitrary or null, the talk of conventional characters, the descriptions of London and of Paris, bookish and naive. Eduardo Poirier is Darío's first Chilean friend; together they write the novel Emelina (Valparaíso, 1887). Dario collaborates regularly in El Heraldo de Valparaíso - directed by Valdés Vergara - as of February 1888, where he publishes the eight chronicles of the series "La Semana". Rubén Darío and Eduardo Poirier dedicated the book to Agustín R. Edwards Mac Clure. Dedicatoria autógrafa del autor.
