Paperback. Condición: Very Good. First edition. 94p., maps, illus., wrps. "Panchito Chapopote", a novel by Xavier Icaza, is not only considered one of the first works of fiction to deal with the subject of oil, it is also recognized for its originality and humor; is the story of Panchito, a peasant from Veracruz who lives in love but suffers from the news that his little piece of land is arid because of oil and this is the heart of the plot. Icaza's novel published in 1928 is, according to scholars such as Luis Mario Schneider and Edith Negrín, the one that inaugurates this genre known as "Petroleum Literature"; in which Huasteca is also grouped, published in 1930 by Gregorio López y Fuentes, a novel that deals with the development of the capitalist oil industry alternated with the tragedies that oil exploitation entails. The oil literature realistically portrays the social, political, and economic implications of the oil industry. It is a genre that, according to Armando Pereira, Claudia Albarrán, Juan Antonio Rosado and Angélica Tornero, in the Dictionary of Mexican Literature, denounces, ridicules and severely criticizes the American and English capitalists who maintain economic dominance of the Mexican subsoil, sometimes through illegal methods such as bribery and crime.

32 x 23. Tapa blanda de editorial ilustrada. Sin subrayados ni anotaciones. Buen estado de conservación.
