Cover worn.Presents the life and accom plishments of former First Lady Hillary Clinton, who campaigned f or her husband in the 1992 presidential election and stood by her husband's confession of infidelity in 1998. Editorial Reviews From Booklist Gr. 5-8. Guernsey first wrote about Clinton in a bi ography subtitled A New Kind of First Lady, published by Lerner i n 1993. Clearly a lot has happened since then. The book starts of f traditionally with Clinton's birth and childhood. Familiar anec dotes seed the pages, but Guernsey does not shy away from the tum ult that marked Bill Clinton's second term. Clinton, clearly the heroine of her story, comes across as a bright, strong-willed wom an, a fast learner who has deeply held beliefs and acts on them. Her many detractors will probably grumble that this book is too l audatory; although failures such as Clinton's health care proposi tion are covered, Guernsey focuses on his subject's successes. Le rner has teamed up with A&E's Biography television show (the exac t link isn't clear) to produce this series, and perhaps that conn ection accounts for more varied and interesting photographs (incl uding those of Gennifer Flowers, Paula Jones, and Monica Lewinsky ) than are often seen in series biographies. Selected source note s, a bibliography, and a combined further reading and Web site li st are appended. Ilene Cooper Copyright © American Library Associ ation. All rights reserved.
