This is one of the very best books on hollow ware fabrication that I have ever come across- and I have quite a few metal working books! This book deals strictly with fabricating pewter hollow ware, but many of the techniques could easily be adapted for copper or silver work. I'm actually quite happy that the author focused on fabrication techniques rather than delving into casting. There are several other resources for casting, but few that do such an excellent job with fabrication and designing modern work. The book is not written in a step-by-step format, but it does lead the reader through a few basic projects to get warmed up. The remainder of the book discusses different elements of fabrication, working with wooden elements, creating "floating" double band and bezel set decorative knobs, creating hinges, hollow handles, and spout construction. There is plenty of discussion about proper construction technique, tool selection and creating some of your own equipment. At the end of the book is a nice section on polishing procedures and materials specific to pewter. The resources in the appendix are quite useful as well. Throughout the book are copious images of gorgeous and inspiring modern pewter hollow ware pieces from some extremely talented artists. Shirley Charron featured beautiful pieces by her creative and accomplished contemporaries. I would recommend this book for persons that have already done some fabrication and are very comfortable with torch soldering, forming and metallurgical terms.
